“A Day of Care: Love and Dedication for Song Song”

The day starts like any other, with the sun already blazing in the sky. It’s 33 degrees, and Song Song, the elderly dog, sits in the yard, patiently waiting for his daily routine. His fur, now patchy and thin due to age and a stubborn skin condition, no longer offers the warmth or comfort it once did. His caregivers—who treat him like family—have noticed how much he’s changed. Song Song, once vibrant and full of energy, is now like a little old man.

“Let’s get you cleaned up,” they say, their voice gentle as they prepare the medicated bath. It’s a tedious task, but they do it with care and love. They push him gently, encouraging him to stand. After bathing, they apply medicine to his skin, hoping to soothe the itching and help his fur grow back. Song Song seems to enjoy it, especially when they rub his hind legs, which always makes him twitch and wag. It’s like he’s smiling, in his own quiet way.

Dressing Song Song is next. His skin is too delicate to be left uncovered. The clothes they put on him help protect his exposed skin from the sun and any dirt. Despite everything, Song Song remains active, though his recovery is slow. The caregivers worry, noticing that his legs don’t move with the same strength. Sometimes, when he moves too much, his legs seem to deform outward slightly. They plan to take him to the vet soon, maybe for an X-ray, to check his bones.

But time is always against them. There’s so much to do—daily cleaning of the yard, the ongoing care of all the dogs they look after, and finding ways to make ends meet. Rain or shine, the work never stops. Even when the rain comes unexpectedly, they press on, determined to get through the day. Song Song is a big part of their lives, as are the other dogs in their care. The financial strain is overwhelming, but they wouldn’t have it any other way.  No matter how tired they are, the caregivers remain hopeful. As long as Song Song and the other dogs are safe and healthy, they’ll keep going—pushing through each day with patience, love, and unwavering dedication.
